Come Visit!

I posted Photos on this blog that were captured during the Worlds Universities Debating Championships Excursions that saw us hosting over 1200 delegates (debaters) representing over 200 tertiary institutions as well as all the continents in the World. I need note that we had students from the Ivy league Universities as well. This as you will note was a huge boost for our tourism sector given the spending that the delegates engaged in during their stay in the country. 

I love tourism hence i celebrated and relished my nomination and consequent appointment to serve as the Excursions & Tourism Director during the 31^st edition of the fore noted championships. I was responsible for arranging excursions for them as well as accompanying some to the global tourism hot-spot of Kasane where the photos were captured. 

The photo where we were in a group was captured in Sedudu Island, an island that caused a diplomatic nightmare for Botswana and her Neighbor Namibia over ownership issues, an international court of Justice ended up awarding the said area to Botswana. You can have the same kind of fun, a great integration with the wildlife, an understanding of the diverse cultures while also immersing yourself in the relaxation that comes with the experience.

Welcome to the Bona (explore) Botswana Tourism Blog!!!

Hello and welcome to the Bona Botswana Tourism blog. Bona, the Setswana word loosely translated see or explore invites you to come to Botswana to experience her the best that Africa's natural and cultural heritage has to offer. 

For those of you who have not had the opportunity to engage in African geography, Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is pivotal that i introduce the country to you because it is our hope and intention to have this blog will have a global reach where some may not know anything about our great nation.  Formerly known as the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its new name after becoming independent within the Commonwealth on the 30th of September 1966. Since then, the country has maintained a strong tradition as a stable representative democracy, with a consistent record of uninterrupted democratic elections.It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. It has a border with Zambia to the north near Kazungula. The citizens of Botswana refer to themselves as Batswana (singular: Motswana). 

Botswana is the number one producer of diamonds in terms of quality in the World, something that has seen the country largely dependent on the mining (particularly diamonds) sector as the largest contributor to the national purse. Another sector however that has now risen to be the second largest contributor to the GDP is the tourism sector. The sheer beauty, diversity and awesomeness of our tourism product portfolio has driven many a global citizen to leave their country in search of the wonders that lie at the Okavango Delta, at the Moremi Game Reserve, at the Mokolodi Game Reserve, the Bahurutshi Cultural Village and many such destinations that have awed and captivated tourists in our country from as far back as the colonial days. The Okavango Delta has now been listed as the Worlds 1000th Heritage Site, joining the Tsodilo Hills which have also been declared a World Heritage site. These are significant and pivotal achievements for our tourism sector, they call not only for an increase in the number of visitors to these places and many others like them in the country, but for continued resilience in our conservation and environmental awareness efforts. 

Through the Bona Botswana Tourism Blog, we intend to give you information on the tourism sector in the country. Places to go, cultures to experience, food to taste, hotels to stay in, information for back packers, what to do when touring and all those travel and tourism tips that you would otherwise not get before getting on the plane or car and heading for the Border to Botswana. I for one hope that the blog will give you insight into what Botswana truly has to offer in terms of tourism both wildlife and cultural in the country, it is my hope that you will be able to interact with us through this blog and that we will learn from you as much as we will share with you. Feel free to drop us an email if you are in need of excursions to Botswana, information on travel and tourism, references on accommodation or whatever it is you might find yourself in need of.
